State of the city speech with Mayor Mark Freeman 2026, Mesa, AZ

Mesa State of City 2026

Building Opportunity at Every Scale

Mayor Mark Freeman delivered an optimistic and forward-looking State of the City address this week at the Mesa Convention Center, outlining a vision for Mesa that honors its traditions while aggressively embracing innovation.

In his second address, the Mayor highlighted several key milestones and future projects that are set to transform the community:

  • The Palo District Revolution: Mayor Freeman spoke enthusiastically about the "once-in-a-generation" opportunity at the former Fiesta Mall site. The proposed $2.5-billion Palo District project aims to bring a 25,000-seat stadium, professional women’s soccer, luxury hotels, and retail to West Mesa.

  • Economic Surge: Over the past year, Mesa has secured more than $1 billion in new capital investment and added 1,500 new jobs with average wages near $70,000. The Mayor noted that the area around Mesa Gateway Airport is becoming a premier hub for manufacturing, aerospace, and logistics.

  • Sustainability & Resources: Addressing Arizona’s long-term needs, the Mayor emphasized his work with the Coalition for Protecting Arizona’s Lifeline to secure Colorado River water. He also detailed the city’s investment in renewable energy, including 3.7 megawatts of city-owned solar power.

  • A Balanced Economy: While large-scale investments bring high-wage stability, Mayor Freeman reminded attendees that the "character and heart" of Mesa are driven by its hundreds of small businesses.

“Mesa is building opportunity at every scale,” Mayor Freeman told the crowd. Whether it is through global manufacturing partnerships or revitalizing local neighborhoods, the goal remains the same: creating a city where opportunity can take root for everyone.
