The City of Mesa has once again been recognized for its commitment to public safety, earning a renewal of its StormReady Community certification from the National Weather Service. The renewed designation, announced on January 5, 2026, is valid through 2030, extending Mesa’s StormReady status first awarded in March 2018.
The StormReady program, managed by NOAA’s National Weather Service, recognizes communities that have demonstrated strong preparedness for severe weather, flooding, and other hazardous conditions. To be certified, cities must show they can quickly communicate accurate, life-saving information to the public before, during, and after storms.
“This recognition reflects the City of Mesa’s strong commitment to protecting our residents,” said Mayor Mark Freeman. “Our teams work year-round to plan, prepare, and communicate so our community has the information it needs when severe weather threatens.”
Mesa’s continued certification comes as a result of year-round investment in emergency planning, real-time weather monitoring, interagency coordination, and public communication. Here’s how the city meets StormReady standards:
