Mountain Bridge Earns Firewise Designation, Strengthening Mesa’s Commitment to Public Safety

The recent Mountain Bridge Firewise designation marks a significant milestone for public safety in Mesa, demonstrating the impact of neighbor-to-neighbor collaboration in protecting homes and families.

Earlier this week, Mayor Mark Freeman joined members of the Mesa City Council, the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, and leadership from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management to celebrate the community’s official Firewise sign dedication. The event served as a formal recognition of the months of diligent work performed by local residents to safeguard their neighborhood.

Proactive Preparedness and Resident Leadership

The path to becoming a Firewise-recognized community required extensive planning, coordination, and physical mitigation. Under the guidance of the Firewise USA® program and the National Fire Protection Association, Mountain Bridge volunteers spearheaded projects to clear brush, improve defensible spaces, and share vital wildfire safety education.

As a result of these efforts, Mountain Bridge is now one of only three communities in Mesa to earn this prestigious distinction. This achievement places the neighborhood at the forefront of wildfire preparedness within the city.

The Power of Partnership

Mayor Freeman noted that the success of the Mountain Bridge initiative was rooted in strong partnerships. By working closely with city staff and state forestry officials, residents created a safety model that other neighborhoods across Mesa can emulate.

During the dedication, the Mayor praised the community’s leadership, emphasizing that proactive mitigation does more than protect property—it ensures the safety of families and the first responders who serve them. He offered his sincere thanks to the volunteers who dedicated their time to strengthening the resilience of their community.

Building a Safer Mesa Together

With wildfire awareness remaining a top priority across Arizona, the Mountain Bridge Firewise program stands as a testament to the power of early preparation. When residents take action today, the entire city is better protected tomorrow.

Mayor Freeman encourages residents interested in wildfire safety to connect with Mesa Fire & Medical and explore available statewide forestry resources. Together, Mesa continues to build stronger, safer, and more resilient neighborhoods.
